Drive By Mastectomies

I got this link from my friend Lupita–women being forced to have mastectomies on an out-patient basis. This link will take you to Lifetime with all the information to sign a petition forcing insurance companies to treat mastectomies as the major, life altering surgeries they are instead of treating them as cosmetic surgery.

I know this sounds obscene in today’s world–however, once again, women are being treated as second class citizens because of that extra “X” chromosone. When it’s a man undergoing prostate surgery, it’s covered–got to protect those genitalia of the males, after all! If it’s a woman, though, it’s not relevant–and that attitude pisses the hell out of me.

I don’t always agree with the congressmen behind this bill–in fact, I oppose them vehemently in some regards (immigration, ridiculous non-binding resolutions and congressional witch hunts wasting my taxpayer time and money being foremost); however, I do agree with them on this.

Mastectomies are NOT cosmetic surgeries–they are devastating and the first step in healing breast cancer. Women who have no choice but to suffer this butchery should be treated with dignity and healing time–not a drive by procedure.
