SF Medic Receives Second Highest Medal

A 20-year veteran, Master Sgt. Brendan O’Connor, formerly a senior medic on a 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Operational Detachment Alpha, was presented the Distinguished Service Cross for valorous actions during Operation Enduring Freedom.

“For the men who were with him that day, Master Sergeant O’Connor is a savior,” said Navy Admiral Eric T. Olson, commander of United States Special Operations Command, who presented the award to O’Connor. “For all Americans, he is a hero, and for all members of special operations across the services, he is a source of enormous pride.”

O’Connor was instrumental in keeping his team alive during an intense battle with more than 250 Taliban fighters in southern Afghanistan on June 22, 2006. While making a temporary stop during a patrol, his team and their attached Afghan National Army soldiers were attacked from all sides with small-arms fire, heavy machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, recoilless rifles and mortars.

During more than 17 hours of sustained combat that followed, O’Connor and his team fought off wave after wave of Taliban attackers from a group of small compounds. Much of the combat was so close that the defenders of the compounds could hear cursing and taunting from the enemies who swarmed the perimeter.

After hearing two Soldiers were wounded at another location, O’Connor removed his body armor so he could press his body into a shallow ditch, then low-crawled some 200 feet under heavy machine gun fire to treat and extract his wounded comrades. One teammate commented that as he was crawling, machine gun fire “mowed the grass” around him. O’Connor then carried a wounded Soldier back to a safer area, again passing through intense fire.

One Soldier with a massive leg injury died, but O’Connor was able to save Master Sgt. Matthew Binney, also a Special Forces medic, who had been shot in the head, shoulder and arm. He then helped organize the continuing defense of the compound and eventual evacuation of the team.

“I don’t think that what I did was particularly brave,” said O’Connor. “My friend needed help and I had the opportunity to help him, so I did. I think I’m lucky to get this sort of recognition; there are so many other Soldiers who do similarly brave things overseas and are happy with just a pat on the back when they get home.”

The DSC is the second highest award for valor, surpassed only by the Medal of Honor.

“I’ve never been more honored, but this medal belongs to my whole team,” said O’Connor.
“Every member was watching out for the other, inspiring each other, and for some, sacrificing for each other. We all fought hard, and it could just as easily be any one of them standing up here getting it pinned on; every one of them is a hero,” he said.

Four other members of the team, including Binney, received the Silver Star, the Army’s third-highest award for valor. Binney recovered from his wounds after treatment at Walter Reed and Womack Army Medical Centers, and now is a pre-medical student at the University of Arizona.

Myth vs Fact

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace. Sahih Muslim Book 020, Number 4651:

It has been narrated on the authority of Masruq Who said: We asked ‘Abdullah about the Qur’anic verse:” Think not of those who are slain in Allah’s way as dead. Nay, they are alive, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord..” (iii. 169). He said: We asked the meaning of the verse (from the Holy Prophet) who said: The souls, of the martyrs live in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hung from the throne of the Almighty. They eat the fruits of Paradise from wherever they like and then nestle in these chandeliers. Once their Lord cast a glance at them and said: Do ye want anything? They said: What more shall we desire? We eat the fruit of Paradise from wherever we like. Their Lord asked them the same question thrice. When they saw that they will continue to be asked and not left (without answering the question). they said: O Lord, we wish that Thou mayest return our souls to our bodies so that we may be slain in Thy way once again. When He (Allah) saw that they had no need, they were left (to their joy in heaven).

Democratic Trash: The Story That Just Won’t Go Away

Democratic Trash: The Story That Just Won’t Go Away

A note from Radarsite: This is fascinating. As happened before with the Hillary Forum, Radarsite started getting an inordinate amount of hits from an Obama camp website. So we looked into it. If anyone is interested in the differences between the Clinton Dems and the Obama Camp just read these comments, lifted directly from Democratic Underground and compare them with the Clinton Dems responses from The Hillary Clinton Forum reported here in an earlier Radarsite article. Whereas the general consensus from the comments thread at the Hillary Forum was one of surprisingly sincere regret and honest acceptance of responsibility for what had become a major political gaff, the Obama people are merely angry and defensive. Very angry and very defensive. Almost immediately the conspiracy theorists got to work. No acceptance of responsibility whatsoever. Just angry backlashes at everyone but themselves.
Till now, I must confess, I hadn’t really appreciated the differences between these two Democratic factions. But I certainly do now. As much as I disagree with their candidate’s vision of America and where they would want to bring this country, the Hillary Dems seem to have exhibited a strong sense of sincerity and humanity. They have stepped up to the plate and accepted responsibility for what has turned out to be a major strategic blunder — even though it was more the responsibility of the Obama Camp to control the images that came out of that Obama Celebration.
And how do the Obama people react to their own revealing anti-patriotic blunders? They react with viciousness and anger. They call on their attack dogs to do their work. Cynical, manipulative, their only concern is in discrediting the source. No responsibility. No embarrassment. No concern for how their obvious disregard for patriotism may look to the average American.
To me, this whole episode has been an education. This is what an Obama Presidency would offer. A Democratic redux of the Nixon years, with all of that petty hatred and viciousness, and with a whole new Enemies’ List. This, my friends, is a clear and unadulterated view of the Obama Camp, and it is both enlightening and disgusting. Read their comments and decide for yourselves. We have deleted the commenters identities. – rg

***LET’S GET TO WORK ON THIS FLAG THING NOW***

“We need to press the meme that the McCain campaign STOLE the flags.”

Here’s the article from Puke News:
John McCain’s campaign prepared to accuse Democrats on Saturday of leaving behind 12,000 miniature American flags after Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday in Denver.Boy Scouts have arrived with 84 trash bags full of bundles of flags at the site of a McCain rally scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time in Colorado Springs. The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there, and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage for the rally.FOX News has been told a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.Notice anything strange here?

a vendor at Invesco Field found the flagsThese flags were meant to go somehwere–and not to some dumpster. Did this “vendor” steal them for political purposes

So, its up to the vendor to distribute and clean up? Then that is his job..

The Feminist and The Fauxminists

Cross-posted from America Needs Me

A cruel person would enjoy watching alleged feminists, hereafter referred to as fauxminists, endure prolonged spasms of apoplexy as Sarah Palin continues her march right over their illogical assertions about why she doesn’t really represent them.

The main thing separating Sarah Palin from the fauxminist ideal is that she has been able to accomplish their dream with greater success and without a shitty hairdo.

It is time for these caterwauling pro-choice maniacs to exercise their right to choose to shut the hell up.

Most galling are the comparisons between “Good Bitch Hillary” and Gov. Palin. Hint to the ladies: you might want to focus on the woman who didn’t need to let a man crap all over her to get where she is. Just sayin’.

The Wall Street Journal is the last major American newspaper that one doesn’t have to travel to Barack Obama’s backside to read. As such, while covering Sarah Palin this week the paper has offered forth that rarest of all finds in the American press: some actual journalism. Even its Opinion pieces seem more like real reporting than what we’ve seen above the fold from the major newspapers this week.

The rambling nature of my A.D.D. riddled brain doesn’t allow for me to be succinct. Here’s a paragraph from this article that explains what I have been saying for the past few days:

“Sarah Palin has put the flim-flam nature of America feminism sharply into focus, revealing the not-so-secret hypocrisy of its code and, whatever her future, this alone is an accomplishment. As she emerged into the nation’s consciousness, a shudder went through the feminist left-a political movement not restricted to females. She is a mother refusing to stay at home (good) who had made a success out in the workplace (excellent) whose marriage nevertheless is a rip-roaring success and whose views are unspeakable-those of a red-blooded, right-wing principled pragmatist.”

I could never pull off using a phrase like “flim-flam”.

As the above quote indicates, left-leaning men have subscribed to the feminist ideal for years.

So…

It’s interesting that the McCain campaign features some female CEOs and a female VP candidate. The Democratic ticket has a couple of dudes and a vanquished token. You can see why the fauxminists are mad, can’t you?

There’s a palpable fear being exhibited by the women who have largely been treating feminism like a fashionable fetish now that a real woman has shown up and done all that they’ve wanted to do. That their first instinct is to tear her apart is very telling about just how deep their convictions are.

It is impossible to open a world of possibilities by narrowly defining what the achievement of those possibilities is. Saying “You can have whatever you want as long as you’re exactly like me…” isn’t exactly the path to a dream.

The feminist movement in America lost the largest part of its credibility when it embraced Bill and Hillary Clinton. Singularly focused on abortion, it ignored the fact that Bill was a sexual predator and celebrated Hillary acting like a spineless pushover to achieve her goals. Hillary Clinton, feminist icon, would have gotten absolutely nowhere without her husband.

Ah…there’s the rub.

Sarah Palin didn’t use her husband’s money, position or permission to get where she is.

It’s the exposition of tokenism vs. merit that has the Feminist Left up in arms. Gov. Palin earned her position without quotas or a man paving her way. She earned it by working hard and being Sarah Palin.

That doesn’t resonate with people who believe that government intervention trumps individual accomplishment.

Don’t know about you but I look forward to watching the Woman Who Has Done It go up against the Women Who Have Talked About It.
