Myth vs Fact

Myth Fact
Islam: Religion of peace.

Sahih BukhariVolume 8, Book 77, Number 607

Narrated Abu Musa:

While we were with Allah’s Apostle in a holy battle, we never went up a hill or reached its peak or went down a valley but raised our voices with Takbir. Allah’s Apostle came close to us and said, “O people! Don’t exert yourselves, for you do not call a deaf or an absent one, but you call the All-Listener, the All-Seer.” The Prophet then said, “O ‘Abdullah bin Qais! Shall I teach you a sentence which is from the treasures of Paradise? ( It is): ‘La haula wala quwata illa billah. (There is neither might nor power except with Allah).”

Tancredo has lost his freaking mind

This is a cross post but the point of Miss Beth asking me to cross post this from Wake up America is her desire to show the ensuing discussion in the comment section.

The debate was lively, many disagree on how to handle the problem, but unlike other discussions I have witnessed, even on my own blog, the debate remained civil and we each showed tremendous respect for each others opinions.

If we could get a National discussion going with the same civility shown, we probably, as a country, would be much farther along in dealing with radical Islamic Extremists—-Spree

So, first the cross post:

Tom Tancredo, from what I am reading, has suggested the threat of bombing holy sites in retaliation if America was to be attacked again. If this is not a misquote, then he has lost his mind.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo’s campaign stood by his assertion that bombing holy Muslim sites would serve as a good “deterrent” to prevent Islamic fundamentalists from attacking the United States, his spokeswoman said Friday.

“This shows that we mean business,” said Bay Buchanan, a senior Tancredo adviser. “There’s no more effective deterrent than that. But he is open-minded and willing to embrace other options. This is just a means to deter them from attacking us.”

On Tuesday, Tancredo warned a group of Iowans that another terrorist attack would “cause a worldwide economic collapse.” IowaPolitics.com recorded his comments.

“If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina,” Tancredo said. “That is the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they would otherwise do. If I am wrong, fine, tell me, and I would be happy to do something else. But you had better find a deterrent, or you will find an attack.”

Tom Casey, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, told CNN’s Elise Labott that the congressman’s comments were “reprehensible” and “absolutely crazy.” Tancredo was widely criticized in 2005 for making a similar suggestion.

No way, no how should anyone be discussing bombing any religious sites. PERIOD.

It is just wrong.

Not only should he not be running for President, he definitely should be evaluated by a shrink.

Maybe put into one of the cute white jackets in a rubber room?

What say you?

Other reactions can be found here.

[Update] With the comments that have been coming in on this post, please make sure you read a follow up post, which lists an article showing things that Tancredo obviously hasn’t read before.

Snooper, from Take Our Country Back started the lively conversation that followed, here in the comments.

Enjoy the debate and remember, debate and disagreements can be done in a healthy, productive manner as these great commenters have proved.
